Secrets to Packing Light

Nothing beats having the least number of items in my suitcase when I’m traveling. The less baggage I bring, the better it is. Here are some tips I learned over the years to help you travel light on your next trip.

A good way to travel light is by simply planning a few days. Once you plan your trip, you can make a list of the essential items to bring.

Choose pieces in three matching colors so you can mix and match to create multiple outfits.

Neutrals (black, white, navy, tan, denim) will tie your wardrobe together.

A few great basics are a pair of jeans, a white tee, a pair of shorts, a casual coat or cardigan, comfy sneakers, and sandals or booties. Don’t forget the little black dress!

Packing a few thin layers. Layers take up less space and offer much more flexibility.

For a weekend trip pack about 10-15 pieces and for a 2-week trip: pack 15-20 pieces. Bring no more than two pairs of shoes and don’t bring heels!

Having one carry-on during your trip makes it much easier. Not only do you have little to carry with you, but your trip will also be more convenient.

You do not have to worry about losing checked-in luggage if you only have a carry-on.

Most of the time we pack too many clothes and shoes. Suitcase space is precious. Don’t waste it.
