If your closet is a looming black hole that seemingly eats up all of your clothes, it\u2019s time to get organized. The clothes closet is one of the most cluttered spaces in all of the house. The clothes pile high into the ceiling and you haven\u2019t seen the floor in ages.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Figure out the space you are working with<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Remove everything from the closet, including hangers, baskets, bins, and anything else on the shelves.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

You need a clear, clean space to plan and visualize how you will re-organize your closet.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Begin by taking measurements of your closet. The best way to maximize closet space is by using two rods on top of each other. With your measurements, you can now go to the store and buy rods and hangers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Choose your hangers<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Limit the visual clutter and give your closet a sleek, streamlined look by using matching hangers for your clothes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Opt for sturdy hangers. There are wood, velvets, and plastic hangers. My favorite are velvets because they are non-slip clothes hangers. This stops your clothes from falling off, and you can place them in a way that ensures they are presented at their best.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Group your clothes together<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

When you\u2019re trying to decide whether or not to keep something, ask yourself these questions:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

  1. Do I love it?<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  2. Do I wear it?<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n

    Separate your clothes into different piles; keepers, outdated, ripped or stained, don\u2019t fit, and you don\u2019t like them anymore.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Place clothes that need some repair in a separate pile.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Dump it<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Declutter your wardrobe and donate, recycle, or sell the clothing items, shoes, and accessories you no longer need.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    You may feel the need to hang on to one or two of these clothes but when are you ever going to wear those clothes again? It\u2019s useless clutter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Organize your keepers<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

    When you\u2019ve finally decided on the clothes that you\u2019ll keep then you should start organizing them by category. Hang your clothes by category (top, skirt, pants).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Arrange your dresses, skirts, and pants on one side and your blouses and shirts on the other.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Things like shirts, leggings, and shorts tend to be thin and pliable, making them perfect for the roll-and-tuck technique.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Drawer dividers are essential to organize your clothes. To maximize space in the compartments, roll your socks, tights, underwear, and belts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Do you have a wall space? Get creative and use this area to hang accessories like belts, jewelry, hats, or ties.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Shoes<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Sort into those you wear regularly and those for special occasions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Buying an adjustable shoe rack will prevent your shoes from getting separated. When buying a shoe rack, avoid those that are slightly pointed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    If you have shelf space, stacking drawers, bins or drop-front organizers are a nice option.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Over-the-door hanging shoe organizers are a good way to keep your floor and shelves clear of shoes while keeping them easily accessible.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Don\u2019t over stuff<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Don\u2019t buy something you know you\u2019ll only wear once.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Start by breaking your task into smaller parts. You can conquer each part without much trouble and you\u2019ll soon find that you\u2019ve already finished the job.
